Dragons
Dragons and Eagles
- For our students ages 4 through 8.
- Classes continue to focus on lifeskills and basic martial arts techniques. More emphasis on excellent technique.
- Dragons learn and memorize practical defense techniques for stripe and belt tests.
The main difference between Dragons classes (ages 4 through 8) and the others offered at this school is the fact that Dragons are NOT required to memorize self defense lessons and Hand Forms. They are taught many techniques (AKA kicks and strikes) and learn proper foot work, yelling during striking and correct body position. They are also shown “Dragon Defense Techniques” which are short self defense lessons that are easy to learn and memorize for their Stripe or Belt tests. We work with them to attain increased focus, concentration, respect, and discipline. Upon reaching their Yellow Belt, they are considered Eagle students. Eagles come to the same class but are also shown more advanced techniques.
Rank Requirements
Dragons must earn five or six Stripes to move to the next belt, with their last stripe being red. At some point during this progression (usually around 8 years of age) the Dragon/Eagle student who has shown great focus and understanding can become a Tiger student, where they will have to train for a minimum of six months and must know a complete Hand Form before they will be allowed to move to the Advanced Tigers class.
ALL DRAGON AND TIGER STUDENTS MUST HAVE AN “INTENT TO PROMOTE” FORM SIGNED BY PARENTS AND TEACHER TO BE PROMOTED TO NEXT BELT
This is a form by which we make sure our students are trying hard at school and being respectful at home and in class. This is one of the main goals we have for our students here at American Tiger Martial Arts
